Target Field Station serves as a central, multi-modal transportation hub and community gathering space. The station integrates culture with transit and
embodies the principles of Open Transit.
The station is development-oriented, focuses on architecture that can create iconic spaces, and appeals to passengers, residents, office workers, and visitors alike. It is more than a single transit stop. As an Associate Architect to Perkins Eastman and Knutson Construction, 4RM+ULA was engaged to execute Building Code Research, Transit Station Platform Design, Interior Architecture, and Construction Administration. 4RM+ULA helped facilitate the successful completion of this complex project on a tight urban site within two years, so the project would open before the start of Green Line LRT operations and Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game.
Today, Target Field Station remains one of the finest models of transit infrastructure enlivened through architecture and urban design. Serving millions of visitors per year, the station exemplifies the principles of Open Transit as a model for future transit planning that creates more vibrant and equitable cities and regions. It is an excellent example of equity in the built environment, where the context of the site and the broad needs and desires of the neighborhood and the people served through transit were centered, creating a place of utility, beauty, and inclusion.
