Green Line Light Rail Transit

Transit and Transportation

The Green Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) is a transformative public transit project connecting key areas of the Minneapolis and Saint Paul metro, including both downtowns, the University of Minnesota, the State Capitol, and diverse neighborhoods along University Avenue. Spanning eleven miles, it serves as the second link in the region’s light rail system, addressing one of the most heavily traveled corridors. In collaboration with AECOM, 4RM+ULA was responsible for the architectural design and documentation of all 18 stations along the Green Line, as well as the Operations and Maintenance Facility. The project emphasized accessibility and community-centered design, creating a seamless link between vital areas of the Twin Cities.

4RM+ULA’s work on the Green Line LRT went beyond traditional transit infrastructure by integrating custom platform designs, public art, and culturally sensitive placemaking that reflects the unique identity of each neighborhood served. The stations were designed to foster inclusivity, equity, and connection, illustrating how thoughtful transit architecture can contribute to community identity and cohesion. By connecting residents and commuters to work, education, and services, the Green Line is more than just a transportation system; it is a vital part of the region's social and cultural fabric, celebrating local identities and creating a sense of belonging across diverse communities.
